This purchase option includes access to a bundle of People Dancing's Online Course and Qualification Approaches to Dance with Older People - Level 4 Certificate.

This online course devised in partnership with Diane Amans, one of the leading dance practitioners in this field, the online learning programme stimulates thinking about what it means to grow old, what health issues may (or may not) have an impact on people as they age, and what issues dance practitioners should consider when planning dance sessions with older people.

The course consists of seven units which learners can work through in their own time and at their own pace. The programme is interactive and contains videos, quizzes and interactions to prompt thinking about the issues covered in each unit. Topics include:

  • Who are ‘older people’?
  • Language and labels
  • Health issues related to ageing
  • Contexts for dance practice
  • Approaches to leading dance with older people
  • Sessions aims, structure and safe practice.

The People Dancing Level 4 Certificate Approaches to Dance with Older People is a single unit qualification that introduces dance artists to key issues that may affect older people who participate in dance. This qualification introduces dance artists to key issues that may have an impact on older people participating in a dance session and planning requirements for the delivery of safe dance practice. It covers the following in relation to leading dance with older people: benefits of dance to older people; physical, psychological and neurological changes that occur as people age; potential physical and mental effects of ageing on individuals; the potential impact of common medical interventions on a dance class participant; techniques to support participation in dance practice; societal and environmental considerations; structuring a safe participatory dance session; managing assistants and volunteers.
